The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, for short, the United Kingdom or the UK, is a sovereign country in Western Europe. It is a constitutional monarchy that is made up of England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. All four countries are part of the UK, and together they form the world’s fourth-largest island by land mass, more than double the size of France and the third-largest by population.

Politics & Government
The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom is the head of government and is responsible for leading the UK’s parliamentary democracy. The current Prime Minister is Boris Johnson, who leads the Conservative Party.
The UK is also part of the European Union, a union of 28 countries in Europe. The UK will be leaving the EU in 2021 after a referendum was held in 2016, in which the British people voted to leave.

The UK remains an important player in international affairs, and is one of the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council. It is also a member of the G7, NATO, and the Commonwealth of Nations.
